A Candle
“The Candle” is the second movement of a four-movement Oratorio “Sarout” dedicated to.. [few words and Sarout]. The idea of this piece is the best desribed by words of [name of text author] and the text itself. I could not avoid the first- person narration in this particular movement of the Oratorio, despite the fact oratorio as genre meant to be more epic and objective. The idea of a Person who does not have mercy on himself and gives the whole his life for the Idea makes me feel very proud of being a human on other side and leads me to despair because this enormous courage of one Man is far not sufficient to make people live in piece to stop pointless suffering and death of men women and children, not just in my native land but all over the world. But without these Sacrifices the final goal – piece for everyone on the planet – seems even farther than it is. And the thought that this highest dedication can exist give birth to the hope in the desert of despair. These feelings I tried to express.
The text itself is very short and epigraphic so I took good care of every word, trying to took out the different meaning and feeling this word gives. This approach leads to a complex musical form, which has no exact definition. We musical language I tried to hold as much international as I could, with just some intonations of my native culture. With this I meant to underline the worldwide importance of the idea I wanted to declare.
“A candle as it diminishes explains:
Gathering more and more is not the way.
Burn, become light, heat and help. Melt.”
